Neckerchief

A few years ago, I was searching for different kinds of accessories—something versatile that I could wear in various ways. I ended up stumping on this picture

And learning about neckerchiefs. After that, I fell in love. They have history and became popular due to their practical uses. People would use them as sweat rags, for sunburn protection, flagging someone, or for a tourniquet for a cut. Often they were made of cheaper and more durable materials like old flour sacks. Boy Scotts or other groups like that will sometime still wear them as part of their uniform Eventually more luxury materials were used such as silk.

I really loved having a little fun and colorful scarf to decorate my outfits with. I started out by getting a few random silk ones with different colors and patterns from Etsy. After months of searching and looking at different kinds of small scarves, I managed to find a vintage Alexander McQueen one—I think from The RealReal, but I’m not 100% sure. It was black with little white skulls.

If I’m being honest, it wasn’t anything too special, but I absolutely fell in love with it. I wore it with pretty much every outfit—whether around my neck, on my wrist, or tied to two belt loops to keep my pants up. I enjoyed the piece so much that I found myself experimenting with it, trying it in different outfits and wearing it in different ways, which only made me love it more. If you ever saw me in person over the last two years, there was about a ⅔ chance you’d see me with that scarf. It was my third favorite piece I owned, just after the Loewe penguin bag and the Peter Do tie-around skirt, in case you were curious.

As you may have noticed, I’ve been using the past tense to talk about the scarf. So, incredibly tragically—so much so that even now, weeks later, just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes—the scarf was lost… It was a normal day. I went out with my friend and, of course, wore the scarf, as I was known to do. It was tied around my neck, and I even double-checked, asking my friend to make sure it was secure. But when I checked for it after we arrived, it was gone. I still don’t know if I tied it too loosely or if the wind somehow blew it off. I just hope that some fashion girlie or enby finds it and loves it as much as I did.

RIP Alexander Mcqueen Scarf

I loved and cherished our time together, no matter how short it may have been.

In memory of the scarf, here are some of my favorite fit pics I took with it.
